If you ever found yourself in a situation where you were about to head down to the ring and engage in combat, what song do you think you would use as you entrance theme?
Probably something incongruous like ‘Hard to Handle’ by Otis Redding just to freak my opponent out. I’d come in, hips swivelling and a massive smile on my face. What’s scarier than that?
As a youngster, which artists inspired you the most or had the biggest influence on your decision to become an illustrator?
As a kid, it was very much about computer game artwork. I was totally obsessed with Zelda: Ocarina of Time (I still am…best game ever made) and would spend hours drawing link and Ganondorf. That’s probably not visible in my work now, but it was a great way at practicing stylisation in my illustration.
Presumably, you have a ‘Nerd Cave’ of your own, but what are the top three unusual or precious items stored within your cave?
Well I’m not very good at keeping my nerd to just one place. It’s kind of everywhere I exist. But the favourite bits are probably the Lego Po’s X-Wing that I built for fun last Christmas, the T-Rex figurine my girlfriend bought me for my birthday (it has a movable jaw and it’s awesome), and the tiny piece-of-crap acoustic guitar that I bought for 20 quid in a charity shop. This guitar has travelled with me to many a place and now sits by my desk so that I can have a quick couple of minutes break whenever I like.
Do you have a spirit animal? If yes, what manner of beast is it?
I think it would probably be something like a sea otter, especially one that is attempting to smash open some form of shellfish. Although, I have had some dodgy experiences with some shellfish, so maybe I’d crack it open and pass it on to one of my other Sea Otter buddies.
Which film made you cry the most as a child?
I think it has to be Lion King. It still gets me. Mufasa!
