Q&A – Brian Butler

Were you a fan of professional wrestling as a child? If so, what are your fondest memories?

Heck Yes! I was born a Hulk-a-maniac and entered my teens during the WWF ATTITUDE era which led me to love chopping my crotch and yelling “S*ck It!” while wearing Insane Clown Posse 3:16 shirts and oversized JNCOs.

Who was your favourite wrestler and why?

I’m a sucker for gimmicks, so I automatically root for any deranged-lunatic who carries around a snake, a piece of lumber, a sock puppet, a maniquin head, or an urn.

If you ever found yourself in a situation where you were about to head down to the ring and engage in combat, what song do you think you would use as you entrance theme?

I’ve given this much thought, and decided that my name would be ‘The Crimson Pallet’, and my gimmick would be to crush my opponents face and paint sensitive art using their blood. I’d likely come to the ring to so some new age track, over-layed with seagull sfx.

As a youngster, which artists inspired you the most or had the biggest influence on your decision to become an illustrator?

Shepard Fairy caught my attention with his ‘Andre the Giant has a Posse’ stickers that I saw them around Boston when he first began making them and, before knowing who he was, he became my prolific DIY “make funny shit and put it out there” inspiration.

Do you have a spirit animal? If yes, what manner of beast is it?

My spirit animal is a ghost playing basketball.
